To take charge of your career, you had better plan a strategy for career success (see also, I'm Grown and Still Don't Know What I Want To Be). In helping thousands of people since 1976 find more satisfying and rewarding work, I have found these steps useful:

1. Testing - A battery of career and psychological tests is administered to help you take an objective look at yourself and to identify a range of options that are likely to fit your aptitudes, interests, values, personality and financial goals.

2. Interpretation - Test results mean little without adequate explanation and discussion. We have found that clients benefit most from testing when they are shown their test scores and provided with help in understanding what the results mean.

3. Exploration - To expand your knowledge of the world of work and help you clarify your interests, clients are encouraged to read about many careers and "brainstorm" about options. Most clients are pleased to find they have many more options than they thought they did.

4. Evaluation - Once you have clarified interests, we will consider the practicalities. The career possibilities you have identified will be arranged into a "career map". Information about training, job opportunities, earnings and so on is then reviewed.

5. Field Survey - An in-depth exploration of the major options you are considering is achieved through talking with people who work in those fields. Clients find these "information interviews" to be easy, fun and extremely helpful.

6.Decision - The final decision is ultimately yours, but now you will be in a position to make this next choice with confidence. Knowing who you are, what you want and where you are going makes it much more likely you will get where you want to go.

7.Self-Marketing - Making a career transition does not have to mean extensive re-training, taking a big cut in pay or starting at the bottom. We can help you to "package" yourself to highlight transferable skills. Then we will help you present this message to key decision makers in the organizations you are interested in.
